Encode sourced from the [PrincessMononoke_FTR_F_JA-SV_51_2K_20170407_CRF_IOP_OV](https://nyaa.si/view/2072877) Digital Cinema Package that recently appeared on DHT (totaling 184 GiB). Source video is less cropped than BD releases, specially in some scenes where the BD is fully zoomed in, and 1998x1080 (2K full frame, higher than normal 1080p). Source audio is the Theatrical Japanese mix at 5.1. [Here's a few comparisons of DCP vs JPBD](https://slow.pics/c/RnvNXwpE) Video converted from DCI XYZ' 4:4:4 12-bit to YUV Rec709 4:4:4 10-bit, matched retail framerate from 24fps directly, then encoded with x264 at 4:4:4 with focus on grain retention, otherwise unfiltered. Bitrate varies from 20-30Mbit/s to 100-110Mbit/s depending on scenes. However, if you want the absolute original grain without any predictive artifacts (although minimized here), you should grab the original source, as that uses all-intra (no predictive frames) encoding. Audio was resampled to retail rates, then encoded to FLAC. Additional tracks from JPBD (2.0) and USBD (English 5.1) were synced and muxed. The encode is bloat overall after finding a couple set of parameters that didn't end up with extremes nor starvation on action scenes. Subtitles are sourced from [niizk/eli](https://nyaa.si/view/1483647) ([info on eli edit](https://frozenpandaman.github.io/mononoke/)). They were synced and resampled to match resolution. Additional signs track was made, and Japanese subs + subs for dub were included from JPBD. [Mediainfo](https://www.zerobin.net/?398b8d89d567e204#tmEBSgAATECvkLeNc5lejm0KfuyMIgo/OXafUar2Zws=)

If I make a V2 I can attach THORA (which afaik are baseline R1). Seems I missed a v2 from eli as well ([see info on their subs here](https://frozenpandaman.github.io/mononoke/)). The video/audio has one second less at the start. So if you sync anything to this for watching that was using JP/US BD timings, it just gets a -1000ms offset and it should be spot-on.
Maybe I'm blind or something but I can't see the difference :(
@Rowri88 Not a huge difference, the DCP has slightly more detail and less noise. Much better than the Totoro DCP, which is too dark IMO.

JPBD [![](https://i.slow.pics/rwRUorcF.png)](https://i.slow.pics/rwRUorcF.png) DCP [![](https://i.slow.pics/cclFip1l.png)](https://i.slow.pics/cclFip1l.png) Look at the leaves/arm and swap quickly in between, focus on lines/edges. Specially in high action/motion/complex scenes the DCP wins over the BD (as it does not predictive encoding). Otherwise elsewhere, more detail (and grain) besides the crop on scenes.
